Ask some industry insiders to name the top three most skillful DJ’s on New York radio and it’s guaranteed you will hear many praises on one particular DJ some call “The Best Kept Secret,”-- DJ Cocoa Chanelle. Cocoa started out as a MC and was put on to DJing by her brother at the age of 14. However, her big break came when she landed a weekly spot on BET’s “Teen Summit” as the first ever BET resident DJ.

She continues to open doors and break down barriers being the first female DJ to land a featured spot on MTV’s highest rated show Spring Break, she proudly notes being listed in Vibe Magazine as one of the top 17 DJ’s in the country. In 2004 Cocoa was listed in The Source magazine as one of the up & coming producers to watch for. She raised eyebrows when she started producing songs for one of the hottest rap camps in New York “D-Block”. Things went a step further when freestyles started hitting the mixtapes featuring Cocoa rapping alongside Sheek Louch and Styles P proving that she is multi talented and can hold her own on the MIC. You can listen out for Cocoa’s production on the upcoming Styles P album entitled “Time Is Money.” To check out more of “The Best Kept Secret” doing her thing, tune into HOT 97’s Ladies Night every Friday 8-10pm.
