In recent reports, Nicki Minaj has given insight about “internet personalities” who are unaware of hip-hop’s history, declaring they shouldn’t make remarks about the genre.
As the release of her upcoming album, Pink Friday 2, draws near, Nicki tweeted, “When you are a rapper, you know the history of the greats & when you are an internet personality, you do not.”
“So if you knew the history of the very culture you are trying to penetrate, you’d sitcho goofy ahh df down. It costs you nothing to stfu. PINK FRIDAY 2 11/17/23.”
The announcement came following Nicki’s August 14 snippet of a track from her anticipated album, resulting in the project being the most trending subject online.
The stylish R&B snippet was in two segments on her Instagram. In one part, she’s grooving to her new jam during a photo shoot, while in the other, she’s chilling with her crew in the studio, vibing along to the fresh track. The teasers set social media on fire, propelling Nicki’s upcoming album to explode across platforms.
Unsurprisingly, it snagged the second spot on Twitter’s trending topics list on Monday (August 14), sending waves through the hip-hop scene.
Pink Friday 2 was first announced in June, with Nicki sharing that the project would be a sequel to her 2018 album Queen.
She said, “Dear Barbz, I’ve been trying to find the right time to tell you this for a few days. Due to some really exciting news that I’ll share with you guys @ a later time, I’ve shifted the album date just a tad bit.” “Trust me, it’ll be WELL WORTH THE WAIT…but since I AM shifting the date just a tad, I’d like to give you guys a tiny SIP of some more album tea so that I don’t have to get cussed out so…here it goes: MY NEW ALBUM WILL BE RELEASED ON 11.17.23- And she shall be called #PinkFriday2.”
Furthermore, Nicki announced her plans to do an album tour, disclosing, “I will give tour deets closer to that time, but obviously the tour will start around the first quarter of 2024.” “I’ll also share the REAL album cover at a later date.”
Notably, Nicki has been dominating the charts lately. This surge came right after Nicki’s comeback banger, “Super Freaky Girl,” dropped, propelling her to the coveted number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100. This feat marked the first time a female solo rapper achieved such a debut triumph since Lauryn Hill owned the scene in 1998.
