Kanye West is no stranger to controversy, so is this just another “Kanye being Ye” sort of thing?
The celebrity faces backlash over wearing a White Lives Matter shirt in Paris while showing off his new Yeezy line during an event. While his models showed off his designs, Ye sported the controversial long sleeve shirt.
The conservative Candace Owens was also in the building and wore the same shirt as Kanye. In addition, some of the models rocked the shirt with the slogan. Rolling Stone points out White supremacists, like the KKK, took the phrase that minorities use to fight police brutality and racism, “Black Lives Matter,” and renamed it, “White Lives Matter.” The Anti-Defamation League has categorized the WLM phrase as a hate slogan.
It’s not clear what message Kanye is trying to send. In 2018, Kanye showed major support for Donald Trump with his “Make America Great Again” campaign. In 2020, Kanye ran for President.
