GloRilla is always one who makes sure to never forget where she came from. She recently visited her old middle school and gave them a very generous donation that surprised even the staff.
The Tomorrow made a visit to Westside Middle School in Memphis earlier this week. Not only were students and staff excited to see her but also the$20,000 check she brought along with her.
Westside is part of a local charter school network that also houses her former high school M.L.K. College Prep High School. She eventually graduated from Melrose High.
“I was super excited to come back to my hood,” GloRilla said. “Everybody knows I’m a Westside baby. I put on for Westside still to this day. I never had nobody when I was young and in this school ever come give back. Since I have it and I’m able to, I wanted to come and give back.”
The rapper also offered advice to the children at the school.
“Chase your dreams!” she said. “Whatever you want to do is possible. I’m living proof because I came from this exact neighborhood, this exact school. Whatever you want to do, you can do it. Manifest and actually work to achieve it!”
Principal of Westside Middle School, Rodney Peterson praised the rapper’s achievements as an inspiration to the children at the school.
“She is the true epitome of a Westside Wildcat,” Peterson said. “With this donation, we can help continue the legacy of empowering young Wildcats to be world changers.”
