Davido will be bringing a piece of Lagos, Nigeria with him once he hits that Hot 97 Summer Jam Stage.
Davido is one of the hottest Afrobeats artists to date and he has given us hits such as, “Unavailable” featuring Musa Keys, “If,” “Risky,” and more. Although he will be gracing the stage on June 2nd, this isn’t the first time he has been to Summer Jam.
Back in 2019, Davido joined rapper Casanova on the stage along with Afro B and Whiz the Kid to give the audience a taste of how they do it in Africa. He and Casanova performed their hit song “2 AM” which also features Tory Lanez. Davido also performed his biggest hit at the time, “Fall.” Check out the full performance below.
Before he hits the stage again this year, let’s get to know a little bit more about him. Did you know that Davido was born in Atlanta, Georgia but grew up in Lagos, Nigeria? Although is he known as a singer, songwriter, and producer, Davido’s first introduction to the music scene was when he was a part of the group KB International, however, it wasn’t until 2012 that he began his rise to fame. He released his single, “Dami Duro” from his debut studio album Omo Baba Olowo.
After the release of his 2012 album, the music didn’t stop coming. Between 2013 to 2015, he dropped multiple singles such as, “Skelewu,” “Aye,” “The Money,” “One of a Kind,” and more. In 2016, Davido announced that he had officially signed with Sony Music, and a few months later he founded his own label called, Davido Music Worldwide.
Since then he has been on a music climb and it doesn’t seem like he is stopping anytime soon. In 2019, he was listed as one of the 100 most influential Africans in New African magazine. In 2021 he appeared on Time magazine’s Time 100 Next List and in 2023 he released his fourth studio album Timeless.
The accolades don’t stop there, Davido is an ambassador for Nigeria and a Grammy and NAACP Image Awards nominee. We can’t wait for him to shut the Summer Jam stage down.
