Doja Cat has entered the chat, offering her picks for Hip Hop’s “big three” while Kendrick Lamar, Drake, and J. Cole solidify their positions at the forefront.
On Wednesday (April 3), the Scarlet artist took to X/Twitter where she shared her top picks, leaving fans somewhat puzzled by her choices.
“HOW is Pitbull not in the big 3?????????” she inquired, which begged fans to question: “well doja who do you consider the big 3 [crying laughing emoji].”
Without skipping a beat, Doja Cat responded, “Pitbull, Chingy, and Baby Bash.”
The sentiment quickly sparked confusion among fans, many of whom were unfamiliar with the listed artists. “am i too gen-z? who is chingy and baby bash,” wrote one fan.
“You’re preaching to the wrong audience Doja [crying emoji], the people on here’s idea of a Big 3 is you, Ariana, and Taylor [crying emoji,” another comment reads.
Doja’s comments come closely on the heels of Kendrick Lamar‘s attention-grabbing verse on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That” — fresh off their new collaborative album WE DON’T TRUST YOU (March 29).
On the track, K. Dot delivers the iconic verse: “Think I won’t drop the location? I still got PTSD/ Muthafuck the big three, n-gga, it’s just big me/ N-gga, bum, what? I’m really like that”
The idea of the “big three” has been a topic of conversation for years, but regained traction when J. Cole referenced himself, Kendrick Lamar, and Drake in “First Person Shooter” last October. He cemented his status at the top of the rap game, by likening himself to the legendary Muhammad Ali.
“Love when they argue the hardest MC/ Is it K-Dot? Is it Aubrey? Or me?/ We the big three like we started a league, but right now, I feel like Muhammad Ali,” he rapped.
On the flip side, the OVO boss subtly shaded Kenny by asserting that he and Dreamville MC alone hold the title of “greatest of all time.”
