California radio stations are playing a blended version of Kendrick Lamar‘s “Not Like Us” with the live performance from Ken & Friends: The Pop Out. Kendrick’s Prime Video performance precedes the switching to original version after he pays homage to Tupac Shakur.
“You ain’t gonna let nobody disrespect the West Coast, huh,” Kendrick says to the roaring crowd on the radio edit before it transitions to the original song. “Oh, you ain’t gonna let anybody mock or imitate our legends, huh?”
Radio’s support in the live performance was inspired by this unforgettable moment in West Coast history. “It was an iconic moment for West Coast Hip Hop on so many levels,” says 24 K.G., Hits 93.1 radio personality in Bakersfield, California, about the concert’s impact. “It put us back on top and showed the future of the coast through our unity. Ain’t nobody f*ckin’ with us. This is only the beginning.”
The Ken & Friends concert was held last month at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California, and streamed worldwide on Prime Video. The concert showcased a complete lineup of Los Angeles rap stars, including Tyler, The Creator, Ty Dolla $ign, Roddy Richh, RJMrLA, DJ Hed, and DJ Mustard. The concert became the most viewed content ever on Prime Video.
“Not Like Us” was released in May, part of the feud between Kendrick Lamar and Drake. The track was produced by DJ Mustard and released after Drake released “Family Matters,” a response to Kendrick’s “6:16 in LA.” Drake responded to “Not Like Us” with “The Heart Pt. 6.”
After releasing the song’s music video on Independence Day, Kendrick has received more than 44 million views on YouTube. The potential Grammy nominated hit reigns at the top of the Billboard charts.
On Wednesday (July 10), social media discovered that iPhone users command their A.I. assistant, Siri, to play “Certified Lover Boy” on Spotify will be played Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” instead. There is no word on whether the hack was created by Apple or Spotify.
Other news is that rumors are spreading across social media about Kendrick Lamar’s next album. Fans believe dates appear on various articles of clothing in the video for “Not Like Us” to indicate an upcoming album. There is no official word of an upcoming album by Lamar or PgLang yet.
