Snoop Dogg opens a dispensary, paying tribute to Tupac Shakur, the man who passed him his first blunt.
On Sunday (July 14), the legendary West Coast MC celebrated the opening of S.W.E.D, a clever nod to his catchphrase, “Smoke weed everyday.” He marked the occasion with a playful snapshot on Instagram.
As part of the unveiling, the “Drop It Like It’s Hot” rapper announced a limited-edition line of Death Row Cannabis products in honor of the late rapper.
According to Forbes, the jarred cannabis flower will be available in five strains, including Alien OG. Along with the premium buds, customers can get their hands on one of four never-before-seen collectible snapshots of 2Pac posing in front of a graffiti-covered Death Row Records wall.
But, that’s not it. Customers will also get a matchbook precisely recreated from the photo shoot. The exclusive cannabis collection will officially hit select California dispensaries on Friday, July 19, with a planned rollout in Michigan later this year.
As for the signifigance, it’s commonly know that 2Pac passed Snoop his first blunt at a Poetic Justice wrap party in 1993, a moment Snoop fondly recalled during 2Pac’s posthumous Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2017.
“I finally got a chance to meet Pac in 1993 at a wrap party for Poetic Justice in LA,” he shared at the time. On that night, Pac passed me my first blunt. That’s right. Tupac is the one that got Snoop Dogg smoking blunts.”
Snoop, who gained fame with his iconic Doggystyle album in 1993 and took over Death Row Records in 2022, expressed his pride in acquiring the label, aiming to restore its cultural legacy.
“I am thrilled and appreciative of the opportunity to acquire the iconic and culturally significant SnoopDeath Row Records brand, which has immense untapped future value,” he said of the acquisition, per BBC.
“It feels good to have ownership of the label I was part of at the beginning of my career and as one of the founding members. This is an extremely meaningful moment for me.”
