Emotions ran high during the premiere of A&E’s Ol’ Dirty Bastard: A Tale Of Two Dirtys’ documentary. So much so, that Wu-Tang founder and producer, RZA struggles to speak during the panel for the viewing. Following the showing, he was meant to join a panel of ODB’s family and friends. However, he couldn’t do it: “I’m not gonna stay for the panel, I have too many emotions running through my head,” he told the host before embracing Dirty’s wife, Icelene Jones, and son, Yung Dirty Bastard.

The screening, held at L.A.’s Grammy Museum, was also attended by Dante Ross who signed ODB to Elektra Records, actor TJ Atoms (who portrayed ODB in Wu-Tang An American Saga), Fatlip of The Pharcyde, and more. Ross recalled the first time he met the “Got Your Money” rapper in a recent statement. “My first encounter with him was amazing. He showed up with RZA, Inspectah Deck, and Divine, who I never saw again.”

The Real Dirty

He continues: “My idea was to make Method Man and ODB a group like EPMD, and that quickly got kicked to the curb by RZA.” Behind the director’s chair is father-son-duo, Sam and Jason Pollard. Ol’ Dirty Bastard: A Tale Of Two Dirtys’ will premiere on A&E on August 25. “With exclusive rights to a never-before-seen personal archive shot by his wife, Icelene Jones, and access to his closest friends and family, this culture-defining special humanizes ODB as a man, a father, and a husband like never before,” the company said in a statement.

Dirty’s wife told Hot97 that she hopes the documentary gives a peak into who the rapper really was. “Russell Jones was a father. He was a husband… a son. He really loved his family. We had a daughter we named Shaquita, and another named Taniqua. A son, a husband, and a father. That’s what describes him best.”
