The city of Memphis honored the hometown hero GloRilla with the Key to the City on Sunday, Sept. 1.
“Memphis made me; Frayser raised me,” she said as city officials in Downtown Memphis presented the key to her.
The “TGIF” hitmaker shared the moment on social media, captioning it, “Memphis made me; Frayser raised me. I got [the] key to my city. Happy 901 Day, Memphis!”
The post would receive congratulatory comments from the biggest names in hip-hop, including Megan Thee Stallion, K Carbon, Moneybagg Yo, and Ludacris. Gloss Up, recording artist and best friend of GloRilla, wrote: “Congratulations! I’m proud of you! Watched you put in the work. You deserve it. Keep going up.”
Yo Gotti, GloRilla’s mentor and fellow Memphis native, was also awarded the key in 2017. Gotti signed GloRilla to his CMG label in 2022 following the buzz of her debut single “FNF.”
GloRilla’s recent project, Ehhthang Ehhthang, dropped in April, featuring fan favorites like “Yeah Glo!” as well as new tracks “All Dere” and “Wanna Be,” the latter showcasing her collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion. Reflecting on their relationship, GloRilla told VIBE, “I was actually shy the first time I went around her. The second time, it just got more comfortable. We got some shots and stuff. It just felt natural.”
Before the award, GloRilla and Megan Thee Stallion were spotted with Beyoncé. She shared the photo on Instagram with the caption, “I luv u @beyonce.”
