Fresh off the road with Tems, OVO Sounds signee Naomi Sharon is one of the hottest new acts in today’s music. Fans have patiently waited for a collaboration since Drake signed the R&B singer in 2023. During a new interview with Billboard, Naomi discussed the Drake collaboration.

After a series of Drake-related questions, Michael Saponara asked the Dutch singer-songwriter when Drake’s collaboration with Naomi Sharon would arrive. Her response was:

“I don’t force things. We spoke about it, but it’s also whenever we feel it makes sense. I don’t think it’s gonna be a conversation. We’re both very sensitive people when it comes to hearing music. Whenever he hears something that will be great, then [we’ll do it]. That would be amazing.”

Before answering the question, Naomi shared that she sends Drake her music for feedback. “He’s one of the people that I send music to have an honest review on what it is,” she told Saponara. “He has a funny brain that can pick things up well and make them popular. He’s a really good one for that. I send him stuff — and of course the man is busy, but whenever he replies to it I’m very grateful. I’m like, ‘This is something I can feel good about or something I need to work on a little bit more.’ Of course, I have my own critique. It’s not that I take his critique and be like, “This is the answer.” But I take it very seriously. He’s just being honest and of course it’s nice when he says, “This is f–king great.”

After Naomi’s ex-finance alleged in 2021 that Drake and Naomi were romantically involved, Sharon’s signing to OVO Sounds was controversial. The first lady of OVO released her debut album, Obsidian, in October 2023. The album features the hit song “Push” featuring Omah Lay.

While Drake wasn’t featured on the album, he gave his input on its direction. “He said, ‘I see you in different musical worlds you can make your own. Why not challenge yourself to go upbeat?’” Sharon shared. “I initially leaned into neo-soul for the first few tracks, but his encouragement pushed me to explore and blend that sound with a more crossover appeal. It really inspired me.”

In 2024, Sharon’s popularity rose to new heights with the release of new singles “Nothing Sweeter” and “Goodbyes (Myrrh),” a collaboration with DJ Snake. “This song holds a special place in my heart,” she tweeted earlier this month.
