At her Madison Square Garden concert on Sunday, Sabrina Carpenter addressed her possible involvement in the indictment of Mayor Eric Adams that made headlines last week.

The “Espresso” hitmaker released a music video in 2023 for “Feather” that sparked controversy, which led to the indictment of the New York Mayor. Sunday night, Carpenter took a moment during her performance to acknowledge Adams. As she smiled at her audience, she asked, “Should we talk about how I got the Mayor indicted? ”

The concert clip, which has since amassed nearly 100 million views, continues to fuel speculation about its unintended role in a larger corruption investigation tied to city politics.

Carpenter’s “Feather” was filmed in Brooklyn Catholic church, which led to the dismissal of Monsignor Jamie Gigantiello. It claimed that the video’s graphic content led to the controversy involved in the Mayor’s indictment.

The New York Post reported on September 23 that the federal investigators recently subpoenaed the church where the video was shot, focusing on the relationship between Gigantiello and Adams’ former chief of staff, Frank Carone. The church has declined to comment on any direct connection to the video but confirmed they are cooperating fully with the investigation.

When the “Feather” video was released in October, it immediately drew criticism from the Diocese of Brooklyn. Church officials condemned the video’s violent and provocative imagery, prompting them to re-bless the church and reprimand Gigantiello.

At the time, Carpenter claimed she had obtained proper permission to film at the location. In a playful response to the uproar, she told Variety, “Jesus was a carpenter,” and even wore a T-shirt with the slogan during her performances at Coachella.

Mayor Adams has been charged with Bribery and Fraud. He issued a public statement professing the claims to be false.
