Michael Boatwright, one of the murders of XXXtentacion, spoke on killing the Florida rap star while discussing his character in a new Instagram post. Boatwright was among three individuals who received life imprisonment after being found guilty by a jury in 2023. As YMT_Boatwright on Instagram, he shared a story saying he is not evil as portrayed.
“Ya’ll just judge me off this one thing ya’ll know bout me but ya’ll don’t even know the truth behind all this,” he wrote. “I’m not this evil person that everybody think I am and nobody even know me as a person ya’ll believe in everything u see on social media, I’m not sorry for nothing I did. #itsstillfreeme.”

In 2018, Michael Boatwright, Trayvon Newsome, and Dedrick Williams robbed XXXTentacion at gunpoint after leaving a motorsport shop in Deerfield, Florida. The “Moonlight” hitmaker was then shot three times and died from his wounds. Boatwright was the shooter.
Before sentencing, Judge Michael A. Usan issued the following statement to Boatwright:
“You turned a robbery into a murder. And on that day when you stood there and fired that weapon, you didn’t just end one life. You effectively ended five lives, including your own … You will spend the rest of your life in prison. From here you will go and be placed in a cell that has a stainless steel slab attached to the wall. That’s your bed. And next to it is a stainless steel sink and a stainless steel toilet.
“That’s the furniture that you have in that cell. You’ll spend every hour, and every day, and every week, and every year of your life in that cell. And one day, they’ll come and open up that cell in the morning and you’ll have passed on. And only on that day will you have served your sentence”
In the years since XXXTentacion’s death, his estate has released several posthumous albums and two documentaries. Two new tracks, including a remix to “Moonlight,” were released in 2024.
