Kendrick Lamar is reportedly planning a major tour next year, but Coachella won’t be part of it. According to Bloomberg, the festival had aimed to book both Kendrick and Rihanna as headliners for its 2025 edition, following struggles to sell out tickets in recent years. However, Kendrick declined the offer, choosing instead to focus on his performance at the Super Bowl LIX halftime show in February, followed by a stadium tour.

Rihanna also passed on Coachella’s offer, as she reportedly “didn’t need the money or the exposure” due to her billion-dollar Fenty brand. Her decision may have also been influenced by her role as a mother of two and the ongoing work on her long-awaited ninth album.

Kendrick’s last tour, supporting his 2022 album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers, was a massive success. Known as The Big Steppers Tour, it became the highest-grossing rap tour at one point, pulling in $110.9 million from 929,000 tickets sold across 73 shows. The tour featured pgLang artists Baby Keem and Tanna Leone and spanned North America, Europe, and Oceania from June 2022 to March 2024.

However, Kendrick’s record didn’t last long. His rival Drake quickly surpassed it with his It’s All a Blur tour, which earned $129.7 million from just 30 shows, later surpassing $320 million overall.

With Kendrick headlining the Super Bowl and gearing up for a 2025 tour, there’s speculation that this next venture could reignite his rivalry with Drake, especially if it breaks Drake’s record. Kendrick’s anthem “Not Like Us” might just echo through stadiums, stoking the competition between the two rap giants even further.
