Jamie Foxx admitted that revisiting his health scare during his stand-up has been “excruciating.”

After the final of his three-night taping in Atlanta for his forthcoming Netflix special titled “What Had Happened Was,” Foxx shared how hard it was to reflect on the medical emergency on stage.

“It was an excruciating time to be able to open those wounds every single day for three nights,” Foxx said in backstage video footage captured by Gayle King. “It was excruciating because the worry is what gets you. We’ve got a great show in the room, but we don’t know what they may laugh or what they may not laugh at. Any comedian will tell you that’s the thing, the worry is the thing.”

“Usually, when you do a stand-up special, you go out for a year and a half and work every little nook and cranny, and then you tape it. You don’t just show up in Atlanta and turn the camera on,” Foxx continued. “It’s a personal journey, and I hope I never have to – I am never going to go through this again. My next jokes will start out, ‘Knock, knock!’ I’ll do an hour and a half of ‘Knock, knock’ jokes.”

Although Foxx has not commented with specificity on his illness, the Huff Post reported that he told a crouwd in Phoenix that his medical complications began with a “bad headache” he experienced last year.

“Look, April 11 last year, bad headache, asked my boy for an Advil. I was gone for 20 days,” Foxx said at a time. “I don’t remember anything. I’m in Atlanta, they told me… my sister and my daughter took me to the first doctor. They gave me a cortisone shot.”

“The next doctor said, ‘There’s something going on up there,” Foxx continued as he pointed to his head.

With his health back intact, the star of “Ray”  has much to celebrate. Along with a new stand-up special, Foxx recently walked his daughter Corinne down the aisle at her wedding to Joe Hooten in September.

Garcelle Beauvais, Foxx’s former co-star on “The Jamie Foxx Show”, described the intimate moment in a since-deleted post on Instagram.

“Last night we got to witness & celebrate the love of @corinnefoxx and @joe.hooten,” Beauvais said. “Your love & respect for each other is palpable. Corinne, you looked stunning,” she added.
