Rod Wave referred to Drake as the “Tom Brady of Hip-Hop” while promoting his new album, Last Lap.

Rod Wave and Drake were expected to collaborate after teasing an unreleased track a few weeks ago; however, the song did not appear on Friday’s album. The song’s absence was never revealed, but Rod Wave spoke highly of the icon. Talking to Montreality, Wave compared Drizzy to NFL legend Tom Brady, offering an insightful perspective on Drake’s enduring presence in the music world.

“He [Drake] loves the game. He’s like Brady,” he said. “Like, bro, why are you still here? You’ve already got 12 rings. But he just loves this s**t. He’s at home like, ‘What am I supposed to do without this?’ That’s just his attitude.”

Tom Brady retired from the NFL in 2023 after 23 years. The 44-year-old quarterback is regarded as the greatest NFL player, having won seven championships. Brady has transitioned to sports broadcasting.

The history between Rod Wave and Drake goes back to 2021 when Wave was supposed to appear on “Lemon Pepper Freestyle” from Scary Hours 2. According to Rod Wave, the verse in the 2021 feature wasn’t up to par, which contributed to the feature’s failure.

This week’s number-one album, Last Lap, features 23 tracks, including the singles “Scared Loved” and “Fall Fast in Love.” The album also includes collaborations with Lil Yachty, Rylo Rodriguez, and Lil Baby.

The new album launches a nationwide arena tour,  which kicks off on Oct. 19 at Phoenix’s Desert Diamond Arena. The tour will take him across major U.S. cities, including Oakland, Houston, Memphis, Boston, Philadelphia, New York, and Nashville, before wrapping up on Dec. 18.

Wave will be joined by a stellar lineup of supporting acts, including Moneybagg Yo, Toosii, Lil Poppa, Dess Dior, and Eelmatic.
