Fans have been patiently awaiting new music by Frank Ocean, and according to Pharrell Williams, they won’t have to wait much longer.

Ocean released his last album, Blond, in 2016. The award-winning artist’s producer, Michael Uzowuru, revealed that they worked on new music in Miami earlier this year in a Los Angeles Times interview.

“Me and Michael’s careers exist post-Hip Hop — that genre, that culture, informs both of us greatly,” Frank Ocean told the L.A. Times. “But his appetite has grown; his vocabulary, musically, has grown so much over the time that I’ve known him.”

While promoting his innovative new biopic, Piece by Piece, Pharrell told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe that Ocean was “cooking.” “Frank stays in the kitchen,” Skateboard P told Lowe. “And that’s likely why he doesn’t serve as often. He really loves the process of creation.”

In 2023, Ocean kept fans on edge by sharing snippets of unreleased tracks on Instagram, though nothing concrete has been announced. Rumors of a collaboration with Rosalía surfaced when a leaked track spread online, but neither artist has addressed it.

Ocean told Coachella fans he wouldn’t release an album, but he confirmed that he is currently working on new material, which left fans eagerly anticipating it. Ocean’s festival performance was rescheduled.

Pharrell’s Piece by Piece includes an all-star cast, like Pusha T, Teddy Riley, and N.O.R.E. LEGO bricks tell the life story of singer/songwriter and record producer Pharrell Williams — from his childhood in Virginia to his success in the music and fashion industry.

The biopic is available now in theaters nationwide. The film’s soundtrack includes new music by Kendrick Lamar, ASAP Rocky, and Tyler, The Creator. The soundtrack is available now via Columbia Records.
