Serena Williams opens about a recent surgery that left her “mortified.”
The tennis star shared a TikTok video laying in a hospital bed, explaining her experience. “One day back in May, I found this big mass on my neck. I was mortified by it, and I got tests done—everything you can imagine.”
“Everything was negative, and it turns out I had what they called a cyst, a brachial cyst to be exact. I ended up having to get it removed. It was so big; it was the size of a grapefruit … Obviously, I went under for it, but they had to put a drain in because it was so much.”
“Everything worked out, and I feel really happy to have worked with some great doctors.”
Thankfully, Serena is recovering well.
The mother of two have been focusing on motherhood as of lately. The former tennis player retired back in 2022. “There comes a time in life when we have to decide to move in a different direction. That time is always hard when you love something so much.”
“My goodness do I enjoy tennis. But now, the countdown has begun.”
She continued: “I’m here to tell you that I’m evolving away from tennis, toward other things that are important to me.”
“I have to focus on being a mom, my spiritual goals and finally discovering a different, but just exciting Serena.”
“These days, if I have to choose between building my tennis résumé and building my family, I choose the latter.”
