GloRilla and Rod Wave both dropped their latest albums on the same release day, and it seems Big Glo had some feelings about the clash — especially since Rod’s project appears to have outperformed hers. According to Hits Daily Double, Rod Wave’s Last Lap is expected to move around 130,000 sales equivalent units in its first week, while GloRilla’s debut album Glorious is projected to sell roughly 60,000 units, less than half of Rod’s numbers.
Rod’s performance would likely secure him the No. 2 spot on the Billboard 200 chart, just behind Jellyroll’s Beautifully Broken, according to Hits Daily Double. However, Billboard reported on October 16 that the race is still too close to call, as Charli XCX’s album Brat—with its newly released remix edition—might take the top spot over both Rod and Jellyroll.
The release date conflict started on September 26, when Rod announced on Instagram that Last Lap would drop on October 11—the same day Glorious was set to hit streaming platforms. GloRilla wasn’t happy about the overlap and commented on his post, “WHY DF WOULD YOU DROP ON MY DAY I’M FINNA TWEAK OUT.”
Rod seemingly confirmed he wasn’t moving his release date, sharing a post on his Instagram Stories that read, “La twin drop same night,” along with a photo of him and Glo in the studio together.
Despite the competition, GloRilla went all out in promoting her album, even incorporating the cover art into her hairstyle. She showed off the unique look in an Instagram post on October 13, with fans hyping her up in the comments. “Your hair is the first I ever seen tell ‘em don’t be trynna copy you,” one fan wrote, while another said, “Now that’s how you promote an album, baby [fire emojis].”
