Plies recently filed a lawsuit claiming that several artists, including Soulja Boy, GloRilla, Megan Thee Stallion, and Cardi B, used a beat from his song “Me & My Goons” without permission. The lawsuit specifically targets Soulja Boy’s hit “Pretty Boy Swag” and the collaboration “Wanna Be” from GloRilla, Megan, and Cardi B. Soulja Boy, however, has strongly denied the accusation, responding with a heated rant captured by Live Bitez.
“‘Pretty Boy Swag’ is not your [beat],” Soulja Boy fired back, questioning why Plies waited so long to file the lawsuit. “You need to change your name to ‘Lies,’ ’cause you a muthafuckin’ liar… You know that ain’t your muthafuckin’ beat, bro.” Soulja continued, arguing that the beat was original and not a sample of Plies’ song. He accused Plies of trying to sue over something that wasn’t a direct sample, calling it “some police shit” and accusing him of being a “snitch.”
The lawsuit centers around what Plies calls an “infrared countdown beat,” which is present in both Soulja Boy’s “Pretty Boy Swag” and the hit songs from GloRilla, Megan, and Cardi B. Following the filing, producer LilJujuMadeDaBeat, who has worked with Megan, responded on social media, pointing out that Dallas rapper Lil Wil’s 2007 track “My Dougie” predates all the songs in question. He also noted that Big E, the producer of “My Dougie,” is credited on “Wanna Be,” suggesting that the beat’s origins lie elsewhere. LilJujuMadeDaBeat further clarified that “Pretty Boy Swag” itself was inspired by “My Dougie,” with Soulja Boy also appearing on the remix of that track.
