Mustard has shared his reaction to becoming a viral meme, thanks to Kendrick Lamar’s latest album, GNX. On the track “TV Off,” about two minutes in, Lamar yells Mustard’s name, creating a standout moment that quickly caught fire online. Fans, comedians, celebrities, and even The Minions turned the moment into a meme, often playfully referencing it directly to the producer.
In an interview with Billboard published on November 22nd, Mustard opened up about how he felt about his unexpected viral meme fame. “That shit was elite,” he said. “So fire. Like, is that a new tag? I can’t wait to perform that song and just hear people just saying that, ’cause everybody’s going to say that like crazy.”
The Mustard shoutout isn’t the only buzzworthy moment from GNX. On the album’s opening track, “wacced out murals,” Kendrick addresses criticism surrounding his role in the upcoming Super Bowl halftime show. Specifically, he responds to claims that he denied Lil Wayne the chance to headline the event in his hometown of New Orleans.
“Used to bump Tha Carter 3, I held my Rollie chain proud/ Irony, I think my hard work let Lil Wayne down/ Whatever, though, call me crazy, everybody questionable/ Turn me to an Eskimo, I drew the line and decimals,” Lamar raps.
Wayne didn’t hold back, responding with a fiery post on X. “Man wtf I do?!” he wrote. “I just be chillin & dey still kome 4 my head. Let’s not take kindness for weakness. Let this giant sleep. I beg u all. No one really wants destruction, not even me but I shall destroy if disturbed. On me. Love.”
