Sade makes her return with a poignant new music video for her single “Young Lion,” marking her first release in six years.

The song and video serve as a tribute to her transgender son, Izaak Adu. In the deeply emotional track, Sade sings, “Young man, it’s been so heavy for you… With such a heavy burden, you had to carry it all on your own.”

Through the song, Sade expresses an apology to her son for the struggles he has faced, with the heartfelt words, “Forgive me, son / I should have known.”

While speaking with Rolling Stone, Izaak expresses the importance and significance of the song. “I think that a song where a parent apologizes for misunderstanding their child can hold immense significance for the trans community,” he said. “For many individuals who are transgender, coming out can be met with misunderstanding and, at times, rejection.”

He continued: “hearing a song where a parent acknowledges their mistakes and expresses remorse for not fully understanding their child’s identity may be incredibly validating and healing,” he continued. “This song may serve as a beacon of hope and a reminder that parents can learn, grow, and ultimately accept their children for who they truly are. I hope it can offer a sense of comfort, validation, and a feeling of being seen and understood.”

Izaak also shared a clip of the video on Instagram and thanked Sade. “Mumma, thank you for doing this… It is so important to me, and I believe it will be to many others, too. Thank you for always giving me the freedom to be ME and fiercely loving me through it all. I couldn’t do it without you. You’re incredible. I Love you more than words can say..”
