Andrew Schulz has sparked controversy after reigniting tensions with Kendrick Lamar, taking another jab by likening the Compton rapper to “Hip Hop’s Taylor Swift.”
The comedian made the comparison during the Dec. 14 episode of The Brilliant Idiots podcast. Schulz argued that Lamar, much like Swift, portrays himself as a perpetual victim despite his immense success.
“Kendrick really is the Taylor Swift of Hip Hop,” Schulz remarked. “No matter what he does, he’s still the victim. Taylor is the biggest name in music history, yet she’s a victim—whether it’s her label, Scooter Braun, or her boyfriends. Kendrick’s the same. Somehow, he’s always the victim.”
Schulz’s comments come on the heels of backlash he faced for earlier remarks that many deemed inappropriate. In a previous rant, he referred to Kendrick’s “wacced out murals” and made inflammatory comments suggesting a hypothetical jail scenario involving the rapper.
“Kendrick’s people and gang affiliates, his security—they’ll kill me, destroy me,” Schulz said. “But just Kendrick? I’d make love to him, and there’s nothing he could do about it. He’d only get to decide if it’s consensual.”
The statement sparked widespread criticism on social media, with many accusing Schulz of making light of serious issues.
Amid the uproar, Schulz revealed that Lamar’s team had reached out to Charlamagne following the contentious remarks. However, neither Lamar nor his representatives have publicly addressed the situation.
Meanwhile, Kendrick Lamar remains focused on his music and community work. On Dec. 12, the celebrated lyricist headlined TDE’s 11th annual Christmas concert and toy drive in Southern California.
Sharing the stage with SZA, Doechii, Ab-Soul, and GloRilla, Lamar performed tracks like “HUMBLE.” and “Squabble Up” surrounded by children from the local community. The event underscored his deep ties to the West Coast and his commitment to giving back.
Lamar’s year has been nothing short of historic. After dominating one of Hip Hop’s most heated rivalries with Drake, the Grammy-winning artist is being hailed for a triumphant 2024, marked by critical acclaim and unwavering fan support. While Schulz’s provocations stir conversation, Lamar continues to cement his legacy as one of the most influential voices in modern music.
