This is FANTASTIC news!

The House approved a second round of stimulus checks for $2000. This is a huge boost from the original $600 that was offered.

Donald Trump didn’t sign the $600 stimulus package and wanted the amount to be tweaked. He pushed for Americans to receive $2,000 payments instead. On Sunday, (December 27), Trump signed the $900 billion COVID-19 relief package into law on Sunday to avert a government shutdown. In a statement on Sunday Trump said,

“As President, I have told Congress that I want far less wasteful spending and more money going to the American people in the form of $2,000 checks per adult and $600 per child. I am signing this bill to restore unemployment benefits, stop evictions, provide rental assistance, add money for PPP, return our airline workers back to work, add substantially more money for vaccine distribution, and much more.”

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said in a statement,

“I am glad the American people will receive this much-needed assistance as our nation continues battling this pandemic.”

One more thing has to happen for some American’s to receive the $2,000 payment. The bill is moved up to the senate. Forbes reports, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said he will bring it to a vote and urged Trump to encourage Republicans to sign onto the bill. Schumer said, “These Senate Republicans have followed you through thick and thin. Get them now to act and to support the $2,000 checks.”

The Washington Post reports Republicans weren’t supportive of the $2,000 payments, but some Senate Republicans like Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri and Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida said he supported larger payments as well.

“I am concerned about the debt, but working families have been hurt badly by the pandemic,” Rubio wrote on Twitter Monday. “This is why I supported $600 direct payments to working families & if given the chance will vote to increase the amount.”

Forbes also reports “regardless of whether the Senate votes yes or no on the larger checks, eligible individuals and families will still receive the direct payments of $600 that was authorized by the legislation Trump signed Sunday evening.” The Hill notes that Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) will try to pass legislation on Tuesday (December 29) to increase the amount of the stimulus checks included in a recently signed coronavirus package from $600 to $2,000.

Let us know what you plan on doing with your stimulus check!
