Kelis is telling it all.
The singer claims that she never received any payment for her first two albums that were produced by Pharrell and The Neptunes and says it’s the reason why she didn’t work with them on her third album “Tasty”.
In a recent profile interview with The Guardian, she recounts that she didn’t realize that the money was missing until she was told that she was going to split the money she was making off of her tour three ways. “Just the fact that I wasn’t poor felt like enough. She also stated that the two producers were “nonchalant” when she brought it up to them. “Their argument is: ‘Well, you signed it.’ I’m like: ‘Yeah, I signed what I was told, and I was too young and too stupid to double-check it.’”
Kelis signed her first record deal at the age of 19. She has since kept things cordial between her and Pharrell and she is getting ready to go on her Kaleidoscope Tour in Europe to celebrate the 20-year release of her debut album Kaleidoscope which was released February 21st, 2000.
