The wait is finally over!
After years of anticipation and debate, fans will be hearing his long awaited 12th solo studio album Tha Carter V on September 27, 2018.
It has certainly been a long journey to this moment. So long in fact that it was starting to get into the territory of the mythical Dr. Dre album called Detox. Some die hard fans are still waiting for that to come out too.
It has been no easy road. During the time following the initial announcement of Tha Carter V, Lil’ Wayne fought a deep legal battle with the man he used to call “dad,” Birdman and Cash Money records, endured some public health problems, even magically signed himself to a whole other label with Jay-Z.
Fans have been used to countless delays before. Remember the anticipation and countless leaks until we finally got Tha Carter III? Hours away from the music becoming a reality, let’s look back on the long road to Tha Carter V.
2012
January 2012: Birdman announced a brand new album for Lil’ Wayne. Instead of what fans expected to be Tha Carter V, he announced the project would be I Am Not A Human Being 2. Speaking of delays, the album was initially supposed to drop “before the summer” as Birdman stated. It was pushed back to February 19 of the next year. Instead it was released on March 26, 2013.
“Wayne’s got an album he’s about to drop real soon. It’s called I am not a Human Being 2 . It’s gonna be before the summer for sure. We haven’t picked the date yet. Whenever he’s ready to drop his album, we’re gonna make it do what it do. He’s definitely got an album done and ready to go. Wayne works a lot. There’s no telling [if Rebirth 2 will happen]. But I know for sure we’ve got I Am Not A Human Being 2 ready to go. That’s the next project.”
July 15. 2012: During a Q&A session about the X Games Lil’ Wayne reveals that Tha Carter V would be released in 2013.
Jake Knudsen(shelton,Washington): Hey weezy what is your favorite thing about xgames and when is carter 5 coming out
Weezy: X Games is a higher level of competition- I’ve been to a few other contest and this one is the best. Carter 5 will come most likely next year.
November 2012: By November, Lil’ Wayne was readying a brand new album, but it wasn’t what fans thought. Instead he announced tha before the release of another album I Am Not A Human Being II that Tha Carter V will be his final project during a conversation with Sway on MTV. When asked why that project just wasn’t renamed Tha Carter V he responded that he wasn’t quite ready to take it down just yet.
“I know y’all want me around for a little bit, and Carter V is my last album,” he said at the time. “Man, I’ve been rappin’ since I was 8 years old. I’m 30 now, man. That’s a long time, man.”
2013
March 2013: – Lil’ Wayne releases I Am Not A Human Being II.
October 2013: – Mel Smith from Cash Money begins the anticipation to Tha Carter V with a simple tweet. “Happy Friday!! New YMCMB music coming soon!! Carter 5”
2014
February 10, 2014: – Drake hypes up the anticipation by tweeting ‘Tha Carter V’

February 15, 2014: – Drake brings Lil’ Wayne on stage during a performance at the New Orleans House of Blues where he announces Tha Carter V will be released May 5.
Drake announced Carter V is dropping May 5th! When we spoke yesterday he mentioned they were 6/8 songs in already.
