A Chicago prosecutor feels “justice has been served” regarding R. Kelly, which is why they dropped his state charges.

The disgraced singer, however, isn’t “happy.”

We covered the report, Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx said she’ll ask the judge to dismiss the indictments. She said:

“I’m here to inform you that the Cook County State Attorney’s office will no longer be pursuing these indictments.” She continues,

“Back in 2019, I stood in this very room and asked for anyone who was a victim or witness to crimes allegedly perpetrated by Mr. Kelly to come forward. Since that time, we’d set up a hotline to allow for victims and witnesses both locally and nationally to contact our office with any information that they’ve received.” She went on the say within weeks, a multitude of survivors came forward, and they received hundreds of tips and advice.

The singer’s lawyer, Jennifer Bonjean, said the singer “isn’t relieved.” She said, “There is no real sense of relief. He is still fighting for his life. He is facing decades in prison.”

The Jasmine Brand points out in a separate statement, Bonjean said, “He only has one life to give. So I don’t know how many sentences upon sentences would satisfy people.” She also mentioned that Foxx “did the right thing.”

R. Kelly is currently serving a 30-year prison sentence in his New York case. He won’t be eligible for release until he’s 80. He’ll be sentenced on February 23 for his Chicago federal trial.

He’s appealing both convictions. He had a pending case in Hennepin County, Minnesota, facing solicitation charges.
