According to reports from the New York Times and New York Magazine – multiple people were shot this morning around 8:30 am at the 36th Street subway station where the D, N and R lines stop in the Sunset Park neighborhood of Brooklyn.
All reports indicate that the suspects are still at large. Gothamist reports that “transit riders reported hearing several gunshots on a Manhattan-bound N-train.” Multiple “undetonated devices” were found on the scene, and witnesses described the scene as “smoke filled.”
At this time Mayor Eric Adams has not released a statement and the Metropolitan Transit Authority said “no additional details will be available immediately.”

According to NBC NEWS, Frank James is “believed to be in custody in Manhattan.” NBC News notes that “a man matching James description” was apprehended near St. Marks and First Avenue and that “additional details we be released later Wednesday.”

More than 24 hours after the initial attack law enforcement is still searching for the man behind the attack at 36th Street Station. Both the NYPD and Mayor Eric Adams have mentioned Frank James, a man in his 60’s, as a person of interest for the attack.
According to The Independent “10 people inside the train and on the station platform” were shot and “several more suffered shrapnel wounds and smoke inhalation.” Police told CBS News that “a 9mm semi-automatic handgun was recovered and officials said a hatchet, fireworks and gasoline were also found.”
President Biden spoke about the shooting on Tuesday during a speech in Iowa.

Graphic videos posted to social media show transit riders left bloody on an unusually smokey subway platform. Reports vary on the amount of people injured – NBC News reports that “at least 13 people” have been injured and 5 people have been shot.
The MTA has informed transit riders to expect delays on a number of trains servicing Brooklyn “There is no D/N/R service in Brooklyn and some stations in Manhattan. Expect major delays on B/D/F N/Q/R trains.”
Schools within a one mile radius of 36th Street Station are under lockdown as the suspect is still at-large.
