Men dominate hip hop, but, over the years, women proved to be just as valuable as their male counterparts.

Artists like Queen Latifah and MC Lyte paved the way for newer ones like Rapsody and Tierra Whack, and show honest lyricism still matters. Other rappers like Lil Kim, Nicki Minaj, and Megan Thee Stallion prove a woman can embrace her femininity while stepping on necks with the bars.

Upcoming rapper Lola Brooke, out of Bed-Stuy Brooklyn, is one to keep your eye on. Even though she’s only in her twenties and petite build, she’s a beast when it comes to her pen game. Lola started rapping in junior high school and realized she wanted to take it seriously after receiving love from her supporters. Lola said, “Their belief in my talent made me understand that I had to step up and step out in my artistry.

The “2021 Flow” rapper will bust out a pen and paper from time to time to write down her raps. Lola said she’s always thinking of new and innovative ways to approach the recording process. Lately, she’s been committed to memorizing lyrics by repeating verses to herself.

Lola’s top list of rappers includes (no particular order) Lil Kim, Missy Elliot, Nicki Minaj, Lauryn Hill, Foxy Brown, plus the Notorious B.I.G., 2 Pac, Jay-Z, D.M.X., Lil Wayne, and Meek Mill. Her dream collaboration depends on her mood; however, being from New York, Lola would love to get a verse from Hov. Lola said, “A Jay-Z verse is equal to receiving a Grammy Winning Award in B.K.!

Lola‘s music made rounds on the airwaves. We asked her how it felt when she first heard her song get played on our legendary station, and she said it was a “memorable experience.” Lola said,

It was especially special as it was on Hot 97! I am eternally grateful to DJ Drewski as he has consistently been a supporter since he first played my single titled “2017 Flow.” As I recall my initial reaction, I remember that I legit screamed! My body shook for a little while.”

We asked Lola how does she hope to inspire other women with the power of her pen:

“I hope to inspire other women and men to keep pushing toward whatever their mind desires. Dream BIG always. As I push for my spot in the music industry, I want people to feel taller than their height and bigger than their heart.”

The best advice you ever received?

“The best advice that I have ever received was never to be afraid to make mistakes as an up coming artist. This is the time where I can have fun and find myself while not being looked at in any judgmental way.”

Lola’s new banger, “Back To Business,” arrived from her feeling overlooked and being underrated. She says, “In my personal opinion, I am the business! You should focus on me.” Take a listen:
