It’s been over a year since Nipsey Hussle’s life was taken away.
Nipsey was gunned down on March 31, 2019. His alleged killer is Eric Holder. Prosecutors say Holder shot Hussle in the head and torso outside Nip’s Marathon Clothing store in California. Eric was indicted by a grand jury on May 9, 2019, on one count of murder, two counts each of attempted murder and assault with a firearm and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon. His trial date was set for March but was pushed back due to the outbreak of COVID-19 and the stay at home order at the time.
In the latest update, LA Times reports that a judge ruled last week (June 27), that Holder’s transcripts from the grand jury hearing should be released and that unsealing the documents won’t jeopardize his right to a fair trial. The transcripts give more details about the case.
Back on May 6, evidence in the killing of Nipsey was given to a 23-member grand jury panel. “The panel returned a six-count indictment charging Eric Holder, 29, with one count of murder, two counts each of attempted murder and assault with a firearm and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon,” the article reports. Holder also pled not guilty.
LA Times attempted to get a hold of the released transcripts. However, Holder’s public defender lawyer, Lowynn Young, was fighting to keep the documents sealed. Young believes “public opinion” will jeopardize her client’s right to a fair trial. The article reports the transcripts will be made public 10 days after they are provided to the defendant or his attorney.
Holder is awaiting trial behind bars and has bail set at $6.5-million bail. If convicted, he faces life in state prison. He’s reportedly due back in court later this month.
