Jamel Floyd’s name started trending after news broke of his death while at Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center.

According to Daily News, Floyd was being “disruptive” in his cell, attempting to destroy the toilet and sink in the cell. The report also says he was breaking the cell door with a metal object.

This caused staff to remove Floyd from his cell, according to a statement from the Bureau of Prisons. During the removal is when staff used pepper spray to get Floyd to calm down. Floyd was reportedly unresponsive after getting sprayed.

Floyd was then taken to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn by Fire Department medics where he was declared dead. The jail report says he died of a heart attack.

Since October 2019, Floyd had been in custody, it’s unclear what his official charges are but records show he was in state prison for burglary, tampering with evidence and endangering the welfare of a child.

The family of Floyd called our very own late-night love MiaBelle to bring light to the story and get more answers. The family hasn’t been able to get much information. However, the news reports it’s being investigated.
