17 years ago today, we lost the beautiful singer Aaliyah (Jan 16, 1979 – Aug 25, 2001). Whether it was her sweet, relaxed vocals or her undeniable fashion sense, the princess of R&B was constantly captivating and winning the hearts of listeners around the globe. She went on to release three studio albums: Age Ain’t Nothing but a Number (1994), One in a Million (1996), and Aaliyah (2001).

Aaliyah rose to fame first as protege of R Kelly with her first hit “Back and Forth.” She then later on branched off and began making huge waves through her music and acting career. In 2000, Aaliyah appeared in her first film, Romeo Must Die, and made history when her song on its soundtrack, “Try Again, became the first song to top the Billboard 100 solely on airplay.
