Cardi B returns to music after a hiatus with buzzing new freestyle “Like What.” Her husband, Offset, directed the music video. The new release marks the first from the Bronx native in 2024.
Cardi posted a clip of the music video with a caption saying “Let me put some GAS in this year” on Instagram.
Worth the wait, Cardi roars with the signature energy, succulent look, and raw lyricism. As she strolls through the lavish mansion in a bathing suit and chinchilla, she raps, “Classy and a c*nt / Blocks and money gettin’ spunt / Like what? / Like a Coach bag, baby, this ain’t what you want / If I ask for it, all I wanna hear is, ‘Yes’ / B*tch said she wanna be my opp, God bless / Look, I ain’t even got dressed / Any L that I took, come after YS.”
“LIke What” samples the Missy Elliott classic, “She’s A Bitch,” from 1999’s Da Real World. Cardi promises more new music to come after the release of “Like What.” “This is just the beginning…stay tuned.”
Fans have been patiently waiting for the follow-up to Cardi’s 2018 debut album. While she has kept her fans pleased with hit collaborations such as “Wap” with Megan Thee Stallion and “Tomorrow 2” with GloRilla, her sophomore album, currently untitled, has been in development for years. Offset teased unreleased music by Cardi on social media and asked her to release the album.
The song and music video comes in the midst of the couple enduring a rocky marriage. Although Cardi B confirmed their breakup in December, they have been seen spending holidays together and admitted to bonding.
Next month, Offset will embark on his Set It Off tour. The tour supports his new album of the same title featuring Don Toliver, Travis Scott, Future, and, of course, Cardi B.
