Joe Budden has never been one to mince words. During a recent episode of The Joe Budden Podcast, the controversial host shared his opinion on the state of female rappers. According to him, “the girl rap wave is over.”
Despite the recent uptick of female rap artists, the former Slaughterhouse rapper feels that attention behind them has slowed down. “I’m normally a few months ahead with this stuff, sometimes a few years ahead with this stuff. The girl rapper wave is finito.”
That said, he believes that artists like Latto, Flo Milli, and Rhapsody will continue to be successful and that “the cream rises to the top.” On the other hand, he believes that Cardi B, might have trouble re-creating the success of her first album — 2018’s Invasion of Privacy — and is “scared to drop.”
He continued: “I think labels are looking at it like, ‘Very few of y’all are selling records, it’s too much work to get your coin back, we got to go do brand deals all over the world with ya’ll, ya’ll are expensive, some of ya’ll are annoying,’ and none of these records are working.”
