Lupita Nyong’o is shooting her shot to be Janelle Monae’s next “Lipstick Lover.”
The actress shared her “audition” video via Instagram. “My official audition to be @JanelleMonae’s next #LipstickLover,” Nyong’o wrote in her caption.
“She’s like this,” Lupita says to the camera as she dances in a green and black two piece outfit.Janelle Monte caught wind of the video and jumped in the comments. “A leading lady. The role is YOURS,” she promised.
The two met back in 2014 Met Gala, Nyong’o previously revealed. “This world is still extremely new to me and unbelievable. [Janelle] came up to me and just gave me the realest hug. I think we may have swayed to the music. She was just like, ‘I’m so proud of you, and just thank you for being you.’ ”
“At some point, [Janelle] asked me for my phone, put her number in and said, ‘Let’s stay in touch,’ ” Nyong’o recalled. “She was like, ‘I really mean it. If you need anything, I’m here for you.’ ”
She continued, “she has magnetism that they were obviously picking up on. She is that enigmatic,” Nyong’o said of Monáe at the time. “People are curious about enigmatic people. I was not surprised. And I don’t mind being associated with her in any capacity.”
