Raven-Symoné says she faced many challenges after coming out.
While accepting an Icon Award at the 9th Annual Better Brothers Los Angeles Truth Awards on Monday (Mar. 6), the child-star opened up about her coming out journey. “There were a lot of challenges,” she begins.
She continued, “there was the crumbling of the wall that I had put up for so many years. And I felt very vulnerable, it was an interesting wound that was opened up in public.” She said coming out made her feel liberated.
While tapping That’s So Raven, the actress knew of her sexuality- yet, was afraid to tell the world at the time.
Now that she’s out the closet, she says she prioritizes representation in her on-screen work. “I want to make sure I’m creating content that reflects the community that we’re a part of. Respectfully and with dignity.”
