SZA Reveals Why She Got Rid Of Breast Implants

SZA recently opened up about having to get her breast implants removed during an interview with the S.H.E. MD podcast. The TDE singer revealed that with breast cancer running in her family, she has a “53% lifetime risk” of developing the condition. She also noted that removing the implants allowed her to avoid fibrosis.

Per the National Institutes of Health, fibrosis is “the overgrowth, hardening, and/or scarring of various tissues and is attributed to excess deposition of extracellular matrix components, including collagen.”

The 34-year-old singer said that her doctor came across the fibrosis during the procedure.  “When I got my boobs done, my doctor took out some of my fibrosis, but.. there was so much fibrosis, it was crazy,’” she recalled. “And he took it out. And so, when I went back, a lot of the concerns were gone.”

However, SZA revealed despite her doctor’s recommendation that she avoid breast implants because of “metal markers” in her breasts, she proceeded with the surgery anyway.

Nevertheless, she later regretted it because the implants were making her uncomfortable: “I have way too much scar tissue because my breasts are too dense,” she said. “And so I ended up getting extra fibrosis like with tissue, whatever, and I didn’t feel good and it was painful. So, I took them out, and now, they’re just my boobs.”
