Teyana Taylor Makes Directorial Debut with ‘Get Lite’

Teyana Taylor, the multitalented artist known for her prowess in music and acting, is stepping into a new role: film director.

With an extensive acting background, including winning multiple awards for her performance in last year’s film “A Thousand And One,” Taylor has proven her versatility in the entertainment industry. In January, she was announced as part of the cast for an upcoming Dionne Warwick biopic.

Taylor is set to make her directorial debut with a film titled “Get Lite,” which is currently in development at Paramount Pictures. The project is a collaboration between Taylor, executive producer Coco Gilbert, and co-producer Storm Reid, who will also star in the film.

Reid, along with Robyn Simpson, will produce through their company A Seed & Wings Productions, while Kenya Barris and his Khalabo Ink Society are also contributing to the production.

“Get Lite” follows the story of a studious teenager in New York City whose life takes a turn when he falls for a charismatic beatmaker, portrayed by Reid. She recruits him to join her Litefeet dance crew, forcing him to choose between a safe academic path and his passion for dance. Eric Gross has penned the screenplay for the film.

For Taylor, “Get Lite” marks a significant milestone in her career trajectory. While she gained recognition as an actress in projects like “The Book of Clarence,” “White Men Can’t Jump,” and the critically acclaimed “A Thousand and One,” she is now venturing into feature film directing.

Her experience directing music videos through her company The Aunties has prepared her for this new endeavor, allowing her to bring her unique vision to the big screen.

The collaboration between Taylor, Reid, and Barris signifies a convergence of talent and creativity in the making of “Get Lite.” With Taylor’s directorial debut, the film promises to offer a fresh perspective on the themes of love, ambition, and self-discovery.

As production for “Get Lite” progresses, fans eagerly anticipate witnessing Teyana Taylor’s directorial skills in action and experiencing Storm Reid’s captivating performance on screen. With a talented team behind the project, “Get Lite” has the potential to make a lasting impact in the world of cinema.
