While born in Dallas and raised as a child in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Usher has always credited Atlanta for making him and his music into the icon that just performed the most-watched telecast performance since the moon landing in 1969. Variety revealed on Wednesday (Feb. 14) that the entertainer is developing a drama series based on his music to tell the story of Black love in Atlanta.
In partnership with UCP, a division of Universal Music Group, Usher brings his music, which includes “Yeah,” “U Remind Me,” and “My Boo,” to the small screen. “My 30-year catalog has resonated with so many people no matter where they were in their lives,” Usher said in a press release. “I’m happy to be working with UCP to bring the music to life. I hope the series resonates with you the way my music continues to.”
A brief description of the developing drama was shared with the announcement, it writes:
“Black love in Atlanta and individuals looking to find a place to call home. The series will explore music, style, sex, romance, and secrets that threaten to tear relationships apart.”
The series’ executive producers are Selwyn Seyfu Hinds, Katie Zucker (Mad Massive Entertainment), and Kenny Meiselas (KMei Productions).
The news comes on the heels of the release of Usher’s new album, Coming Home, his historic Super Bowl LVIII performance, marrying his longtime girlfriend Jennifer Goicoechea, the new face of SKIMs underwear collection, and the announcement of his world tour.
