Robin Thicke joined HOT 97’s Nessa to discuss his recent work and personal journey, reflecting on his musical evolution and family life. He shared insights about his latest remix of the song “Why?” featuring Dream Doll. “My friend City from Running Up Records reached out and asked if I would drop a verse on this remix,” he recalled. Thicke appreciated the original track’s nostalgic R&B vibe, saying it reminded him of the music he grew up on. He recorded his verse in just an hour, and after participating in a viral “Drop the Mic” event in Atlanta, the song landed in the top 10.

Thicke revealed that Jay-Z played a significant role in the remix’s video concept, saying, “I sent the record to Jay-Z over a year ago… and he sent me a video concept.” He praised Dream Doll’s talent, noting, “She just has a great energy, great spirit.”

Reflecting on his extensive career, Thicke acknowledged the challenges he’s faced, including personal losses and struggles with addiction. “I’ve been in the game for such a long time… this is 30 years now that I’ve been writing and recording music,” he stated, expressing gratitude for the current phase of his life. He highlighted the importance of family, crediting his children as motivation: “I want to be my best for my kids.”

Robin Thicke also shared how his father, Alan Thicke, influenced his parenting style, emphasizing the values of kindness and respect. As he prepares for his upcoming album, set for release in February 2025, he feels rejuvenated and excited about the future. “I’m sitting at home… and I’m like, this is really what I always wanted,” he concluded.
