2 Chainz revealed he started off as Lil Wayne’s weed connect before they became collaborators.
The duo made a recent appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” to perform their hit single “Presha.” Before hitting the stage, they opened up about their longtime friendship. “I mean, once we linked up, we were friends from there,” Lil Wayne said, noting that they met at a studio in Atlanta two decades ago.
When Jimmy Fallon asked them to elaborate on how they became collaborators, 2 Chainz spoke about the time he was the “A Millie” hitmaker’s weed man. “Uh…Wayne wanted cannabis,” the College Park native said.
Lil Wayne then added, “And so every time I would go to Atlanta and I wanted to speak about that one thing [marijuana], I would always call [2 Chainz] to talk about that.” He continued, “The moment he said he rapped and the moment I heard it, we got to the studio, and I did this hook for the song, ‘Duffle Bag Boy.’ And the rest is history.”
The rappers are set to release their highly anticipated second collaborative album, Welcome 2 ColleGrove, on Friday, Nov. 17.
