Another tragic shooting of an unarmed Black man by police occurred in Sacramento on Sunday.
22-year-old Stephon Clark was shot 20-times in his own backyard.
According to reports Clark was allegedly spotted by police breaking windows to vehicles along with a neighbor’s sliding door on Sunday night.
Police proceeded to chase him into the backyard of his grandparents home, where he lived and shot him 20 times.
The department claims that the officers THOUGHT Clark was pointing a handgun at them, so they fired shots fearing for their safety.
After being shot to death, it was then they realized Clark was unarmed, with only his cell phone on site.
“He was at the wrong place at the wrong time in his own backyard? C’mon now, they didn’t have to do that,” said Clarks grandmother in an interview with the Sacramento Bee.
Both police officers were put on administrative leave. The department will have to release the footage from the helicopter and officers in 30 days.
