50 Cent is celebrating a pivotal victory as Louisiana has chosen to maintain its tax credit program for film and television productions.
The program, which offers a 40 percent tax reduction on production expenses, faced potential elimination earlier this year. However, the Louisiana Senate Committee voted to preserve the incentive, albeit with a reduced annual cap of $125 million, down from $150 million.
For 50 Cent, who is spearheading the development of G-Unit Film & TV Studios in Shreveport, this decision ensures the viability of his ambitious projects. Expressing his relief, the rap mogul took to Instagram, saying, “Man, they had my ass sweating! WTF, we back in action. Watch. GLG GreenLightGang—I’m coming with some heat.”
Earlier this month, the House of Representatives had voted to end the tax credit, a move that threatened to undermine his investments in the state. Reflecting on the initial uncertainty, he shared, “This doesn’t feel good, but it could be great for Louisiana. Patience—let’s see how it plays out.”
When the program’s elimination seemed imminent, he encouraged Shreveport residents to stay optimistic, adding, “Everything happens for a reason. I want to thank you for supporting me with Humor Harmony, achieving zero violent crimes for 16 days—believe it or not, that’s one of my biggest accomplishments.”
According to local NBC affiliate KTAL, 50 Cent’s commitment to Shreveport involves a transformative three-phase initiative designed to uplift the community. The first phase is already underway, with plans to revitalize numerous properties in the downtown area. Gerod Durden, the real estate broker overseeing the project, revealed that G-Unit is purchasing and renovating approximately two dozen commercial buildings.
“He’s deeply passionate about this city,” Durden said. “We’ve already closed on over ten properties this week, with more deals in the works. These are all-cash offers, targeting spaces for both adults and children to enjoy.”
The plans include a large trampoline park, a grocery store in downtown Shreveport, and other community-focused projects. “It’s all about what can truly benefit the people,” Durden added.
This initiative underscores 50 Cent’s vision of not only investing in the entertainment industry but also fostering meaningful change in the communities he engages with.
