50 Cent couldn’t resist poking fun at Tony Yayo’s music preferences, teasing him for choosing Drake over Kendrick Lamar during a recent trip.
On Monday (December 2), 50 Cent shared a behind-the-scenes glimpse of his jet-setting lifestyle. The video included moments with his G-Unit crew, highlighting camaraderie and humor.
In one standout scene aboard a private jet, 50 turned to Tony Yayo to ask what was playing on his headphones. Yayo initially claimed he was listening to Kendrick Lamar’s latest album, GNX. “You get a pass if you’re bumping Kendrick,” 50 quipped, before yanking the headphones off to reveal the truth. “Man, that’s Drake you’ve got in there,” he joked.
Despite the teasing, 50 Cent has been a vocal supporter of Drake, even amidst the rapper’s high-profile clash with Kendrick Lamar. While public opinion leaned in Kendrick’s favor, 50 refused to concede that Drake took an “L.” Reflecting on the feud during a recent interview, he defended Drake’s legacy. “They said he lost, okay. But what exactly did he lose? The man made over $300 million on his last tour. That’s not losing by any stretch.”
The battle, according to 50, was a win for Hip-Hop, pushing both Drake and Kendrick to elevate their craft. “It forced them to create quality material faster,” he explained.
He also praised Kendrick’s meticulous approach to disses, marveling at the subtle references and hidden layers in his work. “It wasn’t just about lyrics. Kendrick was playing chess. The car from good kid, m.A.A.d city showing up in the video? That was next-level. You didn’t see that kind of strategy in Hip-Hop before.”
50 Cent’s mix of humor and respect underscores his unique place in the culture—a veteran who still relishes the competitive spirit that keeps Hip-Hop vibrant. Whether poking fun at his crew or analyzing lyrical battles, 50 continues to keep his finger on the pulse of the game.
