A$AP Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, is set to face trial in October after pleading not guilty to two counts of assault involving a semi-automatic firearm in Los Angeles. The charges stem from an alleged incident outside a Hollywood hotel in November 2021, where Mayers is accused of pointing a semi-automatic handgun at a former friend and collaborator before reportedly firing it in his direction.
Superior Court Judge Karla Kerlin scheduled preliminary hearing dates for June 28 and August 2, leading up to the trial on October 21. Mayers was not present in court during this decision. This development follows a ruling by Superior Court Judge ML Villar in November, determining that there is sufficient evidence for Mayers to stand trial, despite attempts by his attorney to raise doubts about the case.
In January, Mayers appeared in court and entered a plea of not guilty to the charges against him. Following the hearing, the 35-year-old rapper extended New Year wishes to the judge before leaving the courtroom.
A notable figure in hip-hop, fashion, and music, Mayers has earned two Grammy nominations and is recognized as a fashion mogul. He shares two children with pop sensation Rihanna, with their first child, RZA, born in May 2022, followed by their son Riot Rose in August of the previous year.
