Alicia Keys could be adding another accolade to her extensive catalog very soon: Tony Award winner. Keys’ musical, Hell’s Kitchen has received a whopping 13 nominations.

Ever the supportive husband, Swizz Beatz took a break from the booth and worked as a videographer to capture the special moment via his wife’s Instagram. With a smile plastered across her face, Keys’ appears overjoyed to hear the news.

“Omigosh guys, we just found out that Hell’s Kitchen was nominated for 13 Tonys!” she exclaimed in the video. Keys basked in the moment with her family, hugging her sons Egypt and Genesis, which she shares with Swizz.

Loosely based on Keys’ life, the jukebox musical tells the coming-age story of a 17-year-old girl and Hell’s Kitchen native, Ali. The young teenager struggles with her absent father, self-confidence, and a misguided relationship with an older man. However, she finds comfort in music.

Playwright Kristoffer Diaz helped pen the script, while Keys worked on its music and lyrics. Last week, the musical opened on Broadway for the first time. The singer hopped on X( formerly Twitter), to share the good news with fans: “Hell’s Kitchen OFFICIALLY opened on Broadway last night and I’m still feeling the buzz. Grateful and in awe of this amazing show!!! I’m normally not a crier but last night got me haaa!!” she wrote.

The 40-year-old mom of five revealed that the project was nearly 13 years in the making, and believes it’s a relatable coming-of-age story: “No matter who you are, or where you’re from, you can relate to this story,” she said.

In Keys’ opinion, her working on this project allowed her to reflect on her life and grow as a person. “[It’s been] a lot of healing in myself…Past relationships that were maybe difficult for me, I’ve been able to come to terms with them.”
