Ashanti opens up about her relationship with Nelly.
In a recent interview, Ashanti recently shared insights into her rekindled relationship with rapper and entrepreneur Nelly. “We are both very strong-willed. I’ve learned a lot about being grateful, graceful, and giving people grace, being open-minded and level-headed, and not too emotional,” she said.
The singer went on to share that her relationship with Nelly feels truly special, describing him as “my soulmate, my person, my best friend, my protector.” She continued, “It’s an amazing feeling to know that I have someone who understands me completely. I believe that the universe doesn’t make mistakes, and the timing of our journey together was just meant to be.”
The couple’s love story began in 2003 when they first started dating, but after a decade together, they parted ways in 2013. The two reconnected in 2023 and in September of that year, they quietly began their relationship anew, and by December, they had secretly wed in an intimate ceremony in Nelly’s hometown of St. Louis, Missouri.
In an exciting new chapter of their lives, the couple also welcomed their first child together in July 2024. Their son, Kareem KenKaide Hayes, was born on July 18..
“Having kids is always a blessing,” Nelly told E! News in an Aug. 21 statement following the birth of Kareem. “And seeing how dope Ashanti is as a mother is awesome.”
Ashanti revealed that she gave birth to her baby boy and named him, Kenkaide after her dad. “[That] is my dad’s name,” Ashanti told Entertainment Tonight on Aug. 21. “And obviously my dad has only girls, you know, so Nelly was just like, ‘I think that would be really, really dope. And this was all his idea.”
