August Alsina made a shocking revelation over the summer.

During an interview, August admitted that he and Jada Pinkett-Smith were romantically involved and her husband Will Smith gave his “blessing.” During an episode of Red Table Talk, Jada admitted to being in an entanglement with August, but Will denied giving him his blessing.

During a recent interview with People, August revealed what made him want to open up. He said his personal life was starting to interfere with his business life and didn’t want to ruin his livelihood or be labeled a “home-wrecker.” He also became the legal guardian to his three nieces, or “naughters,” as he calls them, Chaylin, 14, Amaiya, 13, and Kayden, 11. Their father, Alsina’s older brother Melvin, was shot to death in New Orleans in 2010 and their mother Chandra died of cancer on Christmas Day in 2018 the article reports.

“I never really cared about what people thought of me, but my personal life started to seep into my business life,” he says. “There were certain falsities about me, and it affected my business relationships.”

“I could understand why it would look like I’m reckless or disrespectful so it really started to affect my livelihood, and I’m never okay with that,” he continues. “I got three kids to look after. Kill me, hate me, stone me, but bury me an honest man. All I can do is tell the truth.”

August went on to tell the publication that despite everything that happened, he still has “deep respect” for the couple and didn’t mean to “cause trouble.”

“It’s just a part of life, and it’s a part of the journey,” he says. “There’s a lot of love there. Sometimes truth is complicated and difficult. But [my relationship with them isn’t] broken at all.”

Some people accused the singer of “clout chasing” since he decided to “Tell his truth” around the time he released his third studio album, The Product III: stateofEMERGEncy and then dropped the track “Entanglement” ft. Rick Ross. August said he wanted to clear his name and decided to flip the situation when people were making fun of him.

“It was cool when people were able to use it as a mockery of me, like, ‘Oh, you’re an entanglement,’” he says. “When I flipped it, it became a problem for people. Like, ‘Oh, you’re clout-chasing.’ I’m just doing business. It’s not personal.”
