Louisiana rap star Boosie Badazz, also known as Lil Boosie, joins other fellow artists upset over the announcement of Kendrick Lamar as the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show performer at the Ceasar’s Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.
In his rant, Boosie criticizes Jay-Z for not performing at the most viewed sporting event in the country in Lil Wayne‘s hometown. Since it was announced that Super Bowl LIX will be hosted in New Orleans in 2022, Lil Wayne has expressed interest in performing the Halftime Show. Mentioning Master P and Birdman, New Orleans rap legends, Boosie Badazz posts multiple lengthy, explicit tweets labeling New Orleans “The Most Cultural City In The USA” on X, formerly known as Twitter.
In all caps, Lil Boosie rants: “ALL YALL ACTING LIKE YALL COOL WITH HOW THEY PLAYING IT FOR THE SUPERBOWL SMH THE MOST CULTURAL CITY N THE USA( NEW ORLÉANS)ITS A SMACK N THE FACE TO EVERY HIP HOP LEGEND FROM LOUISIANA ‼️@MasterPMiller @BIRDMAN5STAR THIS SHOWS THEY NEVER WANTED YALL TO KICK N THE DOOR N THE FIRST PLACE CAUSE THEY STILL TRYNA LOCK IT‼️SUPERBOWL 22” WAS N CALI N CALI ARTIST WAS ALLOWED TO DO THEY THANG N IT WAS A GREAT SHOW‼️BUT NOW ITS N LOUISIANA N NO LOUISIANA LEGENDS CANT DO THEY THANG #idontrespectit.”
Fans of Lil Wayne have taken to social media to disagree with Kendrick Lamar’s performance over the Best Rapper Alive. As well as Master P‘s, Birdman‘s, Nicki Minaj’s, and Wayne’s manager’s tweets, Booise’s tweet aligns with his fans. After Boosie Badazz’s tweet about the Super Bowl, fans resurfaced a previous tweet directed at Jay-Z.
“In Louisiana, his (Jay-Z) words don’t fly,” tweet the ‘Wipe Me Down’ rapper in 2016. “I don’t know about New York, New Jersey and all these other places but Louisiana and Jackson, Mississippi, that shit don’t fly like that, bro. And I’ll say that to JAY-Z, I’ll say that to anybody,’ cause I’m a stand-up type of n*gga … This [is] what they were telling me, ‘You shouldn’t put a stack to your ear.’ JAY-Z don’t tell me what to do. In Louisiana, it’s just like a trend. JAY-Z is a powerful person. He stopped Auto-Tune. He stopped all kind of sh*t. He won’t stop what’s born and bred in people hearts in Louisiana.”
Jay-Z addressed the controversy surrounding Kendrick Lamar’s selection over Lil Wayne on Monday (September 9). In a statement about selecting Kendrick Lamar, Jay-Z said:
“Kendrick Lamar is truly a once-in-a-generation artist and performer. His deep love for hip-hop and culture informs his artistic vision. He has an unparalleled ability to define and influence culture globally. Kendrick’s work transcends music, and his impact will be felt for years to come.”
As of right now, Lil Wayne has not commented on the Super Bowl Halftime Show or fan outrage.
