Bossman Dlow has turned his passion for ESPN into a clever reveal for his latest album, Dlow Curry, set to drop Friday, December 13.
According to reports, the rapper—known for his track “SportsCenter” and a viral college football moment featuring his lyrics—teamed up with the iconic sports show to make the announcement in style. Dlow made a bold appearance at SportsCenter’s studio, crafting a playful faux-breaking news segment to spotlight his latest record.
Back in August, the Dlow and SportsCenter connection took place when ESPN spotlighted his music.
During the August 29 showdown between the Colorado Buffaloes and North Dakota State, lyrics from Dlow’s track “PJ,” featuring Lil Baby, slipped seamlessly into the broadcast. Veteran broadcaster Mark Jones remarked, “In the words of BossMan Dlow on the sidelines, Colorado — ‘Pockets full of cheese and fresher than Febreze’ right now! Off to a great start!” After a fan shared the video on X, Dlow quickly amplified it, calling for an opportunity on the network’s flagship show. He wrote, “PUT BIG ZA ON SPORTSCENTER!!”
Criticism Mounts as ESPN’s Culture Moves Draw Skepticism
However, not everyone finds ESPN’s attempts to engage with culture convincing. Last year, Cam’ron and Ma$e publicly criticized the network for reportedly appropriating a segment from their popular ‘It Is What It Is’ sports debate show. During an episode in July, the two rappers took aim at presenters like Malika Andrews and Kendrick Perkins, accusing them of co-opting the use of the term ‘cap’—a staple of their show—as ESPN launched a dedicated ‘cap’ segment in its debate lineup.
Ma$e stated, “That’s crazy.” “We need to jack them back. Pause. Malika Andrews and Kendrick Perkins, they be like, ‘So is this cap or not?’ When the fuck did y’all start writing about what’s cap?” He added, “Secondly, I don’t think Malika might know what cap was until somebody said, ‘We’re gonna do a cap segment.’ For ESPN to throw a cap segment in there, we just did the cap hats and all types of shit. Now they got a cap segment.”
Fans seemed to echo Cam and Ma$e’s sentiments, with one listener remarking, “Don’t trust Malika and ESPN scrambling right now.”
